Tanteo Tequila

Wednesday Afternoon Cocktails

Last week, actress Theodora Woolley stopped by Casa Tanteo for an impromptu happy hour. After sipping on some signature Tanteo Jalapeño Margaritas, we came up with a challenge - create four cocktails based off her four most recent acting roles, and teach Theodora (as well as anyone reading this post), how to make them. Below are the cocktails, as well as a little background on each drink and the character inspiration:

1. The 4AM Express (inspired by Tessa Duran from MTV’s Eye Candy)

Tessa was a party girl who spent her time on camera drinking cocktails and hanging out in clubs. I wanted to make something fun, bubbly, and celebratory for this cocktail. The Tanteo Cocoa and strawberry is a fantastic combination that we showcase in our Nolita Rita cocktail, but the addition of sparkling wine makes the drink even more fun. I can imagining having a few of these during a big night out.

The 4AM Express:

1 ½ oz Tanteo Cocoa Tequila

¾ oz Strawberry Puree

½ oz Fresh Lime Juice

½ oz. Agave Nectar

Sparkling Wine

Mix first four ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into an ice-filled champagne glass. Top with sparkling wine.

Theodora says: “10/10 Love the strawberry, lime, and cocoa combination! So smooth and fruity... I could drink this all night long!”

2. The Tony Negroni (inspired by Brandi from NBC’s Broker)

Brandi is a gum-chewing, elitist receptionist at a Brooklyn real estate office full of dry ironic jokes. Brandi is sassy and glamorous, yet witty and fun. I love Negroni’s, but there is a little bit of snobbery aligned with ordering one at a bar in the U.S. Traditional Negroni’s have a lot of bitter elements, which takes a level of sophistication to appreciate. I made this one with Tequila, and substituted the traditional Campari and Italian vermouth to create a funky and cool alternative to this classic. (I must admit -- I did not invent this cocktail. That honor goes to Ali Dedianko… but I did invent the name.)

The Tony Negroni:

1 oz Tanteo Tropical Tequila

1 oz Cynar Artichoke Liqueur

1 oz Yellow Chartreuse

Add ingredients in a shaker with ice. Stir and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a lemon zest

Theodora says: “9.5/10 Smooth, funky, sophisticated, and a little cheeky. I feel cool just pouring this drink!”

3. The Moscow Margarita (inspired by Rada Radchenko from CBS’s Blue Bloods)

Rada was a heartbroken rich daughter of a Russian mobster. Usually when you hear Russia and cocktails you think vodka, but for this cocktail, I changed the modifier to sour cherry juice. You often see sour cherries in Russian cuisine and since we are a Tequila company - we need at least one margarita here right?

The Moscow Margarita:

1 ½ oz. Tanteo Jalapeno Tequila

1 ½ oz. Sour Cherry Juice

¾ oz. Fresh Lime Juice

½ oz. Agave Nectar

Chili Salt Rim Glass

Add ingredients in a shaker with ice.  Shake and strain into a salted ice filled rocks glass.

Theodora says “8/10 beautiful color! The tart cherry is refreshing, but I don’t think I like it as much as the original Tanteo Jalapeño Margarita. I guess there is a reason they don’t make Tequila in Russia... :) (emoticon added by me)”

4. The Gunslinger (inspired by Brooks from CBS’s Person of Interest)

Brooks is a government assassin that kills the bad guys. For this shot, I had a special treat -- a sample of Tanteo Chipotle Tequila that I worked on during my last trip to Mexico. The chipotle is smoky with a kick and works really well with pineapple.

The Gunslinger

1 ½ oz. Tanteo Chipotle Tequila (sorry-it is not available yet)

1 ½ oz. Pineapple Juice

½ oz. Fresh Lime Juice

½ oz. Agave Nectar

Add ingredients in a shaker with ice.  Shake and strain into a shot glass

Theodora says: “10/10 Amazing -- Dangerously good! Can’t wait to have this drink available at the bars!”
