Friends, the Winter Holidays are a busy time for the booze business in general. While we do expect to finish the year with a strong December, as a Tequila supplier, all of our work is done for the year, and I am writing this post sitting by the beach gearing up for 2017. This down time is perfect for us to reflect on where we have gone in 2016, and where we are planning to go in the future. Below are some of the highlights from our very successful 2016.
Tanteo Chipotle Launch
We launched our first new infusion since inception this year, and 5 months in, it is off to a great start. We created Tanteo Chipotle as our answer to Mezcal - a way to add smoke and spice to your favorite tequila cocktail. It has been so much fun exposing fans of Tanteo Jalapeño to something new in Tanteo Chipotle. Whether in our signature Pineapple Chipotle Margarita, Chipotle Hot Chocolate, or even a Tanteo Pumpkin Margarita, the Chipotle launch opens Tanteo to a whole new category of tequila cocktails. I am very excited to see what new creations are created as the country's bartenders get more familiar with the brand.
Our other big move this year has been the launch of our new distillery at Juanacatlan. While this move has proven to be challenging, we are now up and running and bringing our first group of guests down in late February to see it for themselves. Juanacatlan is a co-operative of the Agave Growers Association, making artisanal blanco tequila that is the perfect base for our spicy tequilas. With a living wage paid to all employees, environmentally friendly production methods, and meticulous attention to detail, we are excited to bring you the best tequila we have ever produced in 2017. I wrote about the move more here, and be prepared for more images and videos in 2017 of how we make the perfect spicy tequila.
As Jalapeño Margaritas gain in popularity, we see more and more accounts outside of our traditional high-end Mexican restaurants feature the Tanteo Brand. Top Golf , a high-end driving range rapidly growing across the United States, has been a great partner with their strawberry Jalapeño Margarita. We have also seen great success across the United States. From Boston, New York, New Jersey, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Austin, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, Orange County and even Maui, sales are growing as the popularity of spicy tequila rises. We are seeing similar growth in the off-premise, with growth at chains like Bevmo and Total Wine, but also independents from New York, Texas, Colorado, and California. We are cooking with gas across the United States, but with so many more places that could carry Tanteo, our work is just getting started.
Development of the Tanteo Team
One of the most rewarding parts of growing a business is seeing the people you work with develop as well. In 2016 we have seen our team expand with the addition of Mena Jibran in April as our Art Director, an expanded role for our regional sales manager Scott Gold, and Jacob Gordon taking the Title of Chief Sales Officer. We are gearing up to develop more people in 2017, as we continue to spread the message that Tanteo is the perfect way to spice up your Jalapeño Margarita.
Plan for 2017
All we have accomplished in 2016 is a stepping stone for the even bigger year we have planned in 2017. Given the success of Tanteo Chipotle, we are planning to launch a Habanero infused tequila for our fans that want something extra spicy, as well as launching our very own Jalapeño Salt, which is the perfect way to spice up your Tanteo Jalapeño Margarita even more. We are also planning to expand our sampling program to many of our retail account partners with an internal sampling team. I will get into these in more detail when we are ready to go live.
With a busy year in the books and another one to come. Now back to my book.
